The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
