American Social Media Personality Fined After Large-Scale E-Bike Gathering on Iconic Australian Bridge

New South Wales police have issued a fine against an American social media personality and handed out two traffic infringement notices for reported reckless operation after a swarm of electric bicycle users gathered on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during peak-hour traffic on Tuesday.

The Incident: A Prohibited Ride

A group of around 40 people riding e-bikes and motorcycles proceeded along the primary roadway of the bridge, an area where bicycle riding is banned. The assembly then turned around and traveled through the city’s CBD and a nearby district.

"There was a risk of people to be injured and killed," stated NSW police assistant commissioner David Driver on the following day.

Law enforcement indicated they did not chase right away the group out of safety concerns but rather found the group at a scenic Sydney lookout near the Botanic Gardens, where they dispersed.

Fines Imposed for Influencer

Later in the week, authorities announced they had issued the American online personality who goes by Sur Ronster, 26, with two violation tickets for careless operation (not involving death or prior injury), with a fine of $562 and three demerit points per notice, in relation to the bridge incident. They added that the investigation is ongoing.

The personality is said to have over 3.4m followers on YouTube and more than 1.2m on Instagram.

Influencer's Comments

The online figure spoke with a local publication recently following the event spread rapidly on digital platforms, stating he was sorry for giving "the biking community" a negative image.

"I accept the blame. It was one of the safest gatherings I’ve ever seen," he told the publication. "I’m coming here as a guest, so I’m going to abide by the laws and norms of Sydney. When I decided to do a meet and greet it was not meant to include a group ride, it was just to say hi under the bridge."

"I’m unfamiliar with the city, it was my fault we found ourselves on the bridge and I had a decision to make: whether the group completes the entirety of the bridge and turns around, which is a crime. Or we turn around, essentially, before we’re on the bridge. I chose at the time to go back."

National Debate on Electric Bike Rules

The spate of e-bikes on roads nationwide has sparked increasing demands for regulation. The federal health minister, the minister, commented that non-compliant electric bikes were a "total menace on the road."

"Young people have engaged in stupid things on bikes ever since the penny-farthing [but] the harm that are coming into our hospital emergency departments are truly severe," the minister stated. "We’ve got to ensure we stop these things entering the country [and] officers are given the authority to take strong action, to confiscate them, to destroy them, to dispose of them."

NSW recorded over two hundred injuries associated with electric bikes in the previous year. But, in the initial half of 2025, that figure jumped to 233 injuries plus four deaths.
