A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, donated by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
